Baking is an art that can prove to be extremely rewarding when you do it right. Who doesn’t want to create delicious and mouthwatering sweet treats for everyone? But, it should also be noted that it is definitely not easy to accomplish and it takes bakers some time to perfect their skills. If you are an aspiring baker, then you can certainly benefit from these simple baking tips by Ido Fishman that can make a big impact.
Check them out here:
- Prep the pan before the batter
It doesn’t matter what you are baking; you should always prep the pan before prepping the batter. Bear in mind that precision is key in baking. Once you have mixed the ingredients together, they need to be popped into the oven quickly to allow leavening agents to do their magic. Therefore, you should prep your pan beforehand, so it is ready to go just when you need it.
- Refrigerate the mixing bowl for fluffy whipped cream
Before you beat the whipped cream, you should put the mixing bowl in the fridge for about half an hour. According to Ido Fishman, it will be a lot fluffier and stable than using a room temperature bowl.
- Pre-line the cake stand with parchment
Even though this is not that necessary, Ido Fishman says that it can save you some clean-up time. You will have a bakery-worthy and clean cake stand for serving your masterpiece, if only you line it with parchment before you frost the cake. You just need to place strips of parchment paper near the base of the cake and then slip them out when you are finished with your decoration. This will give you a spotless cake stand.
- Add espresso powder to your batter
If you want to enhance the flavor in your brownies, chocolate cakes, cookies and other chocolate baked goods, then Ido Fishman Chef recommends that you add just a teaspoon of espresso powder. It is an excellent way of improving your chocolate cake mix.
- Allow your cookie dough to ‘ripen’ in the fridge
Before you start baking cookies, you can put the cookie dough in the fridge for about 24 hours to let it ‘ripen’. You can improve the texture and flavor of the cookies this way. In fact, Ido Fishman says that you can leave them longer as well like for 36 hours.
- Use the right size of eggs
One of the most important details that you need to check when you are baking is the size of the egg. It needs to be in accordance with the recipe. A medium egg is much smaller than a jumbo or an extra-large egg and your recipe can be altered significantly if you mix up the two.
- Use room temperature butter when the recipe indicates
According to Ido Fishman, the temperature of the ingredients that you have to use can make a big difference in your baking. If you have forgotten to take out the butter from the fridge and don’t want to wait for a couple of hours, you can simply warm up a bowl in the microwave. You can also fill it up with boiling water for a few seconds to warm it up. Cover up the butter for a couple of minutes and it will be ready for use.
- Get a kitchen scale
The ideal way of measuring ingredients accurately is through their weight instead of volume. Therefore, if you are serious about baking, Ido Fishman suggests that you invest in a food scale. There are some cheap options that you can find easily and they will become your best friend in the kitchen quickly.
- Buy an oven thermometer
It is crucial for the oven to be at the right temperature for baking and the best way of ensuring that you have the correct temperature is by getting an oven thermometer.
